Trend Spotting // Minimalism

Minimalism is in, and I for one could not be happier.

In my humble opinion, nude is always the most flattering shade. Whether its a mauve nude, brown nude, or pink nude, I always gravitate to these tones.

Why do I love nudes so much? Simply put, it enhances your natural features, rather than covering them up.

You've heard it before, but I'll say it again, makeup is one of the most powerful ways to boost someone's self-esteem/confidence. If you're aesthetic is a bold eye and lip, full coverage foundation, a strong contour, and a fierce wing, then you do you girl.

But, and this is a big butt, if you feel like the only way people see you, give you respect, or like you, is if you have a full face a makeup on to make you more "attractive", that's where the problems lie.

For those people, this trend is just what the doctor ordered. This is a much needed transition away from heavy makeup, and into loving yourself; bare face and all.

Let's get right into it.

Bold Eyes = Neutral Eyes

This is a recent look I did with 2 eyeshadows, from the same palette. I used shades "chocolate" and "gilded" from my Anastasia Beverly Hills Tamanna palette.

With a fluffy blending brush - I use the Sigma E40 - take a small amount of any brown eyeshadow and lightly start adding colour to your inner and outer corners of your eye, creating a halo of sorts.

Then, with a flat packing brush - I use the mac 239 - pack any gold shimmer onto the centre of your lid, lightly blending with the brown on either side. That's it!

I love these types of eyes. Halo eyeshadow looks are so versatile, and flattering on almost every shape. By adding a deeper shade in the outer and inner corners, and a lighter shade in the centre, you're creating dimension, depth, and contrast. This can make your eyelid look larger, and less cluttered. These colours can also be swapped with any other shades. My other favourite combo is a deep burgundy in the corners, and a shimmery berry tone in the centre. Like this.

Dark Lip = Nude Lip

A nude lip is my favourite lip. If you stalk me enough (@makeupbydsondak on insta) you'll get those nude lip vibes real quick. Whether it's glossy, matte, velvet, or a sheen, nude ftw.

BUT, minimal eyes now open a door for bold lips. If you feel a bit adventurous, and don't want to forego all of your darker makeup looks, then a deep lip is the perfect compromise.

Tbh, this his has to be one of my favourite looks I've done on myself.

I've never been confident enough to wear a dark lip - I don't think my lips look good in them - but, I saw this colour and had to get it.

As you can see, I'm wearing very minimal makeup.

The emphasis is on glowing skin, clean brows, and lips.

I have no eyeshadow on, and just a tad of nude eyeliner in my waterline - this opens up your eyes, making them seem larger and awake.

Lipstick is Nudestix Magnetic Lip Pencil in Raven.

With that said, a nude lip will soften any look. Instead of overwhelming your face and becoming the focal point, your lips will look natural, and complete your softer look.

Matte = Dewy

For the longest time, I was team matte. Matte primer, matte foundation, matte eyeshadow, matte lips.

Man, has my taste changed.

Having a dewy face doesn't give the impression of oily skin, it gives the impression of healthy skin.

If you read my last post - which you can read here - it's time to start paying attention to your skin. Radiant, glowing skin is something people envy these days - just take a look at my bathroom. The amount of skincare samples I have is nuts. I'm constantly trying out new things to see what will work for me and give me that glowy, dewy skin.

For example: Valeria Lipovetsky

Skin (and hair) goals.

Using just a touch of rosiness on her cheeks and lips, and clean glowing skin, she looks fresh and put together.

Looks like these were all over the NYFW runways.

From Marc Jacobs and Marchesa, to Carolina Herrera and Oscar De La Renta; simple, nude, and dewy was what hit the runway.

Whether this trend is for you or not, I'm living.

Thanks for reading!

Much love,
